Corvetteditorial
Rear View Mirror - Janurary/February,
1992: Oceanside Christmas Parade
attracted 23 Vettes, thanks to Corvette
Owners Club of San Diego, followed by
dinner at the T-Bird Diner; Eight Vettes
took toys to the Street Masters toy drive at
Marina Village; Christmas Progressive
dinner was a huge success, with the gift
exchange looking like it would last all night;
Planning for the Weseloh show; 15th
Annual Plastic Fantastic; Weseloh show
date changed because of conflict with
America's Cup car show at Sea World;
Terrific New Year's party at the Kaplan's;
Barbara & Barry Sklar won free brunch in
John Pawoll & Steve Montagna's Mystery
Brunch Run, by knowing Corvette trivia;
Bob Berglund hosts Malibu Grand Prix
and Marie Callenders brunch run; and
Cerv-1 was aquired by Pro-team.
By now I suppose everyone except myself has seen the new Vette (I managed to miss it by a few minutes at the Plastic Fantastic). It seems like the February issue of every car magazine has a feature story on the beast. It does look like a winner! Now if Chevy can just get them out the dang factory door...

Membership Chairman
12/04/96 Meeting:
At our December 4th meeting we did not
have any guests, but we were very pleased
to welcome Willian & Joan Knooihuizen
of Carlsbad as our newest members. We
hope they will join us in many events
throughout the next few years.
We had no meeting the 2nd Wednesday in
December or the first Wednesday in
January due to the holidays.
December 4th we had our third name badge drawing. Don Wolfe's name was drawn from our basket but unfortunately Don was not at the meeting wearing his name badge to collect the $15. Therefore the post increases to $20 and rolls over to the first meeting in January, which will actually be the third Wednesday in January.
At the January 15 meeting, we had 3
visitors from the North County Corvette
Club: President Les Anderson, Publicity
Dave Haltermann, and Plastic Fantastic
committeeman Ed Daher distributed flyers
for the Plastic Fantastic January 24th at
Seaport Village.
Shawn Silva's name was drawn in the
badge drawing, and he was wearing his
badge, so he won $20. The next drawing
will be for $5 on February 5th.
Hopefully, somebody will be doing an
extensive article about our Progressive
Holiday Party, but in a nutshell, it turned out
wonderful. Everybody that went had a
great time. Terrific food at all three homes,
good, good company and a really great gift
exchange.
Many thanks again to the Pawolls, Eatons
and DeHolls for opening up their beautiful
homes to all of us.
I have the photographs that I took of
everyone in front of the Eaton's gorgeous
Christmas tree, but the glitch is, I need to
see you to give you yours (they came out
great)!!!!
The Plastic Fantastic had some award
winning Vettes: In the Wash & Shine class,
Wes DeHoll took third; in Street stock 84-96, Darryl & Betty McManus won fourth,
Bob Wiltse took third, Gary Albright from
Thunder Corvettes took second, and
Eddie Sheehan took 1st place!
Retirement!
By Anne Lamache
Bob Wiltse retired January 3, 1997 and on
January 4, Judy Wiltse held a surprise
party for her husband at the Monte Carlo
Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Anne
and Andrew LaMache, who were spending
a week at the hotel, were invited. Thirty-one people attended the buffet dinner, and
then assembled in a suite at the hotel.
Bob, who had retired from the Customs
Service, was honored by his colleagues.
They relished the opportunity to roast Bob!
Humorous stories and gifts were presented
to Bob, but he took it all in stride. Hor
d'oeuvres, various confections, champagne
and soft drinks were served. It was a
wonderful surprise party for Bob, as people
came from far and near to enjoy
participating in a well deserved farewell.
Bob, may you find retirement to be the best
part of your life, because now you can do
whatever you want to! We wish you the
good life you are entitled to. Best wishes
from all in the North Coast Vettes
Corvette Club.
